Technology and Construction Management
In 2001 the advisory boards were updated to reflect the composition of the Industrial Management Department and the careers our graduates were pursuing. Today the department maintains two active advisory boards to represent the construction management and industrial management programs. The main purposes of the advisory boards are to help the department maintain currency and relevancy on all issues related to curriculum and industry and to promote the program as appropriate.
Construction Management Advisory Board
The Construction Management Advisory Board includes a mix of contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals. Membership is by nomination or application and approved during the Fall meeting. The Construction Advisory Board bylaws are available electronically along with the application for advisory board membership.
The board meets twice a year either on campus or at a member's place of business. The meetings are scheduled in conjunction with another event such as a career day or roundtable night. Each meeting includes an update on the department, a review of classes, and an open discussion on a relevant topic(s). At each meeting at least two courses receive a full review and are presented to the advisory councils by the faculty member teaching the course. Advisory board members give feedback regarding content.
The advisory board play the role of advocate for the department by employing graduates, promoting the program, and supporting the program in a number of ways both financially and with their valuable time. Students in the Technology and Construction Management Department can be assured if the department has a need the advisory board will be there to provide it support. The department has not made a request the advisory board could not accommodate.
